When to much information is deemed spam

17 August 2021

when too much information is given away to the same channel all at once is deemed a "nuisance" also commonly known and referred as spam. this generally happens because you're  either being careless or overdoing your marketing campaigns.

defining the "nuisance"

the truth is social networks are not meant to facilitate spam. the definition of a "nuisance" in the uk is "a nuisance to the community or to a person or group of persons". the united states federal court has held that a "nuisance" is not harmful to others or of use or benefit to the individuals who receive it. as we have ascertained that the social networks are not intended to facilitate spam, then they should also not be used to promote or advertise the contents of a commercial e-mail list that is of dubious provenience.

the legal side of it

there is no legal definition of the term "nuisance", however, it can be considered a violation of the anti-spam laws if information on a commercial list is transmitted over networks that are not intended for this purpose. therefore,  if a large amount of requested information (not discriminating the quality here) is sent to recipients at once or repeatedly with or without consent, it will definitely cross the border into anti-spam violation.

why too much information is not helpful

it will turn users away from your site and make them wonder about the legitimacy of your business. users do not want to be bothered by businesses that want too much information to sell to them. when taking this long tortuous path, it will be difficult for you to promote networking without overwhelm. allowing enough information to be disseminated onto your network will be detrimental to the success of your business. too much of the same information...then you wipe away all the good work as it is not longer helpful, it will create more headaches than it solves.

why doing promotion if this results in being negative?

promoting a business negatively is never a good idea. spamming is one good way in which a business can promote its business "negatively". while there are many ambiguous websites out there that work very well with spammers, social networks in the other end do not want anything to do with it for the most. it is therefore almost impossible to promote a business negatively on a social network like myspace or facebook and not being blocked or banned once flagged by many users. spammers cannot easily use social networks to promote their scams or wrongdoings because the network acts as a barrier to this type of behavior.

in conclusion

when there is too much information provided, this almost automatically deters people from even signing up to a website service. businesses should try to reduce the amount of information that they give out with all their marketing materials and work more on the quality of the information they provide. if the nature of the business for a company dictates that it still needs to deliver lots of information, then they better ask themselves whether this could harm their business in the long run more than helping them.
